This month we will be reading Fashion: The Industry and Its Careers by Michele Granger to explore some of the opportunities available in the fashion industry. Finding work in the fashion industry differs from other fields, and this book provides guidance into the many opportunities available in the fashion and design industries.
This book is broken down into units where Granger introduces readers to relevant topics including careers in raw materials and manufacturing, careers in product development and sales, and ancillary business. Each of these units are further broken down into chapters with highlights including textile product design and development, promotion in retailing, fashion styling roles, beauty and wellness, and much more! Each job listing includes a description of the position, qualifications, and pros and cons of that career which aids readers in gauging their interests.
The author, Dr. Michele Granger, was a professor at Missouri State University, where she taught entrepreneurship and fashion design classes. She was originally from Syracuse, NY, and retired from teaching in 2016. Her goals surrounded educating the next generation of fashion designers.
