“Tell me about yourself.”
Hello! My name is Abby! I am from San Diego, California, and am excited to be a part of the Career Assistant Team! I chose the College of Human Ecology because of my respect for their commitment to improving human life, especially in the context of resilience and health equity. I learned about the CEC my freshman fall, and have grown to really admire the environment and the community it cultivates within the College. I am excited to work with the other Career Assistants, and to grow in my own knowledge of health, professionalism, and leadership.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
In the future, I want to pursue a career in preventative healthcare. At this time, I am still exploring the niches of “health” and what drives people to make decisions regarding their health. I aspire to bring together epidemiology, health policy, and community-building resources to strengthen population health and foster awareness of potential risks before they develop into larger challenges. Some future career options for me include preventative medicine, or being a health policy attorney.
What are you involved in on campus?
In the human ecology setting, I am a Department of Nutritional Sciences student advisor, human ecology ambassador, teaching assistant, and the student representative for the human ecology Academic Integrity Hearing Board. In addition, I am also involved with Cornell University’s Emergency Medical Services, the Chinese Student Association, Cornell’s Housing Office, and Cornell’s International Affairs Society. Finally, I am involved with global health research with Professor Moseley in the Veterinary School!
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy volunteering with Cornell Splash, Science Olympiad, and participating in a cappella. I also love playing the piano and violin, as well as spending time reading. One of my goals for my remaining years at Cornell is to explore more of the greater Ithaca area and all it has to offer!
