Love the healthcare industry but unsure of your place in it?  Consider becoming a nurse, the fastest growing job over the next decade according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Here are just a few of the reasons to think about this rewarding career:

  1. According to Forbes, the nursing field will increase 26% from 2010 to 2020. That means there will be plenty of job opportunities across the country and abroad.
  2. Because the profession is always in demand, there is a level of job security that many fields can’t compete with. As baby boomers age and technological advances more rapidly than ever, this is not changing anytime soon.
  3. Drexel University projects the median starting salary for a registered nurse in 2016-2017 to be $66,640!
  4. Schedules are extremely flexible compared to many fields of work, allowing you to pursue interests, continue your education, or have a family.
  5. Becoming a registered nurse does not take as long as you’d think! With some undergraduate prerequisite courses, you can apply to accelerated nursing programs and get a degree in about 11-18 months.
  6. There is a load of options within nursing itself: besides combining it with degrees such as public health or health care administration, you can explore careers such as clinical nurse specialist or nurse practitioner.
  7. Nursing is an extremely rewarding career in which you can work with a diverse population and make a genuine difference every day.
